The sensor is designed to withstand gentle hammering with a rubber mallet, however, you have to make sure the soil is not too hard. If the top layer has hardened, for example because of draught, take away the first 5 to 10 centimeters until you have reached more moist/softer soil.
The user assumes any risk of breakage associated with hammering.
